The City of Hudson’s motto is "Small Town, Big Heart" and it is the quintessential Midwestern town with friendly residents, beautiful homes along leafy, tree-lined streets, well-respected schools, locally-owned small businesses, industry, and more. “With its rolling topography, interspersed with waterways such as the Bean Creek, the City of Hudson is blessed with natural beauty. Hudson is home to many historic buildings, some over 150 years old. Most of these buildings have been renovated and appear largely as they did 100 years ago.” The entire downtown is on the National Register of Historic Places (“NRHP”). (Credit: city website.)
Recreational opportunities in the city and nearby are amazing! For example, “There are three parks within the City: Webster’s Park near downtown; Memorial Park off South Church Street near the southern city limits; and Will Carleton Park at the north edge of the City off Cadmus Road.” The Hudson Trail System has 5 trails, so far, making up a continuous 5-km loop – all ADA compliant and open year-round. A significant percentage of the housing stock is 50-125 years old, most preserved (if historic), updated to modern code and maintained. There are also newer homes (and a few older). If you are looking for small-city charm, friendly neighbors and an active lifestyle, Hudson might help you achieve your dreams. Besides a good base of local employment, Hudson has good highway access putting the city within easy commuting range of Adrian, Jackson, Hillsdale, and a reasonable drive to the Ann Arbor area or Northwest Ohio (Archbold , Napoleon and Wauseon).
Some of Hudson’s additional assets are:
• Southern Michigan Center for Science and Industry (“CSI”) - Skilled Trades & Technology Training Center
• Thompson Memorial Park (baseball/softball)
• Evergreen Golf Course
• Hudson Cinema Plaza
• Hudson Bowling Lanes
• Bean Creek
• Thompson Museum: W. G. Thompson House Museum & Gardens: This 1891 Queen Anne style structure houses three generations of Thompson collections.
• The Hudson Museum: a valuable starting point for those with an interest in history. Several noteworthy historic homes exist within Hudson, many listed on the National Register.
• Easy access to Adrian, Hillsdale and Jackson, plus US-127, I-94 and US-20 and I-80/90 on Ohio.
“Lake Hudson Recreation Area, located five miles southeast of Hudson, has 2,796 acres around Lake Hudson. The park offers premier muskie fishing, game hunting, camping, hiking and wildlife viewing. The terrain is gently rolling with a mixture of open brush land to mature hardwood forest, with some pockets of open meadows mixed in. A new beach area provides users an excellent place for sunbathing and swimming. Lake Hudson has been designated a dark sky preserve for observation of the nighttime sky.” (Credit: State of Michigan.)
The very popular Manitou Beach-Devils Lake area is 10 miles and the Irish Hills region includes several more lakes, hiking trails and Wampler’s Lake State Park.
Hudson is close to State of Michigan Game Preserves in Pittsford and Somerset, both close-by in Hillsdale County, and Bear Creek Hunt Club (about 2 miles east of Hudson).
Hudson Area Schools is the resident district. Michigan is a "School of Choice" state. Participation in choice programs is optional for districts. The degree and extent of participation are also determined at the local level. Ask your REALTOR® at The Wagley Group for more information.
Hudson is home to the Southern Michigan Center for Science & Industry, a skilled trades and technology training center. Sacred Heart School is the only Catholic elementary school in the area.
A Proud Moment in Hudson’s History: In 1975, the Hudson High School Tigers football team won its 72nd consecutive game, setting a national record football winning streak which stood for 22 years. Sports Illustrated wrote about the record. The Streak still stands as a state record and is a large reason why the community is justifiably proud of its athletic teams. In 2010, the Tigers became the Division 7 State Champions, earning the first Michigan High School Athletic Association State Football Championship in Lenawee County history.
