Onsted, in Cambridge Twp., was organized in 1883 by William Onsted, named after his father, John, who was the first person to purchase land here. Onsted was platted as a village in 1885 and incorporated in 1907. Today, Onsted has over 900 residents with 370 households. The small, historic downtown is undergoing a renaissance with over 10 new businesses on Main St. in the past 3 years. Almost every staple or service is available in Addison (please see list below). Single family residential properties range from 1890s Craftsman style to recently-built Midwestern Contemporary homes. Quaint neighborhoods and new subdivisions, plus stand-alone single-family homes in the village (or nearby) provide a wide range of options for living space, floor plans, amenities, lot sizes and values. Beautiful tree-lined streets. Indoor recreation center at the Old Mill and large village park. Monthly community events. Well-regarded school system with its campus one block from downtown.
