Sand Lake is an all-sports lake with 440 acres of surface water, and it is developed all the way around. This is a very sought after lake that typically has listings every year. A number of subdivisions and additions create mini-neighborhoods, but for the most part the entire lake is one neighborhood. Everyone shares the beaches and shores of their private property on land with a flotilla of pontoon boats and other watercraft that typically circulate in the morning and later evening (before sunset). Near several other lakes, including Evans, Wampler’s, and a chain of lakes (Killarney, Kelly, Meadow, Allen and Wolf). Near Hayes State Park, Hidden Lake Gardens and wildlife preservation areas. Great access to US-12, M-50, M-52, US-223, and US-127.

Onsted Community Schools is the resident school district. While Michigan is a "School of Choice" state, participation in choice programs is optional for districts.
